BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Hindu Temple)

Metro Atlanta's most spectacular cultural, arts and spiritual highlight is also open for tours. The BAPS Temple is the largest Hindu temple in the U.S. Visitors can tour the temple, and with advance requests, guided tours are available. Tour highlights include the viewing of the sacred deities and the Aarti ceremony, the waving of lit lamps before the Deity. Each imported, hand-carved piece was created by master craftsman, while the temple fits together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. It is completely etched with intricate carvings, depicting a mosaic of tales of inspiration, devotion and historic figures from Hinduism. By the Numbers: 6 Shikhar (pinnacles); 86 decorative ceilings; 116 archways; 340 pillars; 17 months to complete stone work; 8 tons, heaviest stone, 37 grams, lightest stone; 4,500 tons of Turkish limestone; 1,500 craftsmen involved at 26 different sites in India; 900 volunteers; 1.3 million man hours of construction and it is built to last 1,000 years. Schools and groups are welcome to visit the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. Advanced reservations are required for school and group visits in order to make your visit comfortable. Visits are also entertained on weekends and holidays subject to available visiting time slots. Schools/groups should arrive at the Mandir 10 – 15 minutes prior to their allotted time slot. Open 7 days a week. Tours last 1 1/2 hours. Tours are free and bus parking is available on site. Shoes are not allowed in the building. Modest dress required - NO shorts or skirts above the knee, NO tank tops or sleeveless tops. No smoking, drinking, weapons, chewing gum, eating inside, photography or video inside.
