We regret to inform you that the United Ebony Society’s annual Martin Luther King Parade scheduled to be held in the city of Lawrenceville, GA on January 17, 2022, has been cancelled. The decision to cancel the parade is two-fold. In efforts to honor the wishes of the King family, the celebration could not take place without the inclusion of Voting Rights legislation. In addition, the low registration of participants due to COVID concerns, as well as the recent surge in viral infections, impacts the organization’s ability to successfully implement a robust celebration. In lieu of the parade, the United Ebony Society has decided to conduct a ceremony which incorporates the King family’s advocacy of voting rights legislation, as well as honoring Dr. King’s legacy. A voting rights candlelight prayer vigil will be held as an alternative. The MLK Voting Rights Candlelight Prayer Vigil, will take place at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. Located at 185 W. Crogan St. Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The ceremony will take place on January 17, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
